ISO 9001:2008
ISO is a well known standard that requires an organization to set and follow uniform, documented procedures to produce a product or service. In our case, we chose to standardize and track key areas that determine the level of quality for translations: medical linguist assessment, selection and on-going evaluation, customer response time, error rate and overall customer satisfaction. We’ve found that these metrics contribute to the quality of the translations that we produce.
EN 15038:2006
This standard, developed by European Committee for Standardization, serves as an assessment tool for language service suppliers for clients. Language suppliers, in turn, can adjust operations to comply with the requirements of the EN 15038:2006 standard. This standard provides a set of best practices that cover linguist selection, process, technology, client-supplier engagement and other key areas of language practice. By requesting an EN 15038:2006 certified translation, clients will also have an added layer of quality with a 3rd reviewer for all projects certified to this standard.
Quality Systems Department
Our resident quality systems team is responsible for internal audits, evaluating nonconformances in our processes, correcting deviations from our standardized procedures and more. When there is a breach in procedures that could potentially compromise quality or cause errors in translated deliverables, quality systems gets involved. If quality has been compromised, our QS team works diligently to set in place corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to ensure resolution and client satisfaction.
Standardized Procedures
Burg provides various services and has many departments that contribute to the successful operation of the organization. Standardized, documented procedures help maintain consistency in not only the translation process, but in the overall every-day production environment. From the way we communicate to clients to the smallest details of naming files, our standardized procedures ensure that our clients receive the very best service.
Third Party Process Audits
Each year, we subject ourselves to a 3rd, independent party to get an objective assessment of our performance against our established standards. TÜV Rheinland is our quality partner that has been providing technical, safety and certification services for over 100 years. The staff at TÜV works with our internal QS department to ensure Burg’s compliance with set procedures. These audits help us pinpoint areas of development while keeping standards of quality consistent across the organization.
Language Asset Management
The use of translation memories and glossaries are common practice in today’s translation environment. With our technology partner, Across Language Server, we’ve found a way to harness enterprise technology to deliver high quality translations. With Across Language Server, we can leverage existing memories and glossaries to set pre-defined quality parameters according to client specifications. Moreover, client side reviewers can be included in the translation workflow through a standard web browser. This means your in-country review is no longer an after thought in the translation process, but rather a well planned step contributing to quality control.

We work with many highly regulated industries that require a traceable audit trail every time a document is modified, touched or viewed. Upon request, we can provide logs that detail usage for certain documents and files. This way, changes are tracked and traceable to a known user.
