  • Spanish Medical Interpreters (remote, HIPAA-compliant)

Who Should Apply

We’re looking for independent interpreters who are:

  • Fluent in at least two languages with documented proficiency
  • Professionally trained, with a minimum of 3 years’ interpreting experience
  • Comfortable with complex subject matter and sensitive environments
  • Technically prepared to work remotely (OPI, VRI, RSI)
  • Committed to upholding confidentiality, accuracy, and cultural competence

Available for freelance assignments on a flexible schedule

General Interpreter Requirements

To be eligible for freelance interpreting work with BURG Translations, you must have:

  • 3+ years of professional interpreting experience
  • Verified language proficiency in all working languages (CEFR C1, ILR Advanced Mid, or 85%+ on a third-party test)
  • A resume/CV and two professional references
  • A signed Code of Conduct and confidentiality agreement
  • Legal eligibility to work as an independent contractor (W-9/W-8BEN or business license)
  • A reliable internet connection, headset, and quiet workspace for remote assignments
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal background check if required by the client
  • Familiarity with ISO 13611 and ISO 18841 standards for interpreting services

Specialization Requirements

Medical Interpreters

  • 40+ hours of medical interpreter training (e.g., Bridging the Gap, CCHI, etc.)
  • Current HIPAA and FWA training certification
  • 3+ years’ experience in clinical or hospital settings
  • Understanding of the NCIHC Code of Ethics

Legal & Court Interpreters

  • Legal interpreting coursework or certification (NAJIT, state programs)
  • 3+ years’ experience with legal/court assignments
  • Familiarity with the NAJIT Code of Ethics and court protocols

RSI (Remote Simultaneous Interpreters)

  • 2+ years RSI experience, 3+ years overall
  • Formal training or certification in simultaneous interpreting
  • Awareness of ISO 24019 standards and AIIC ethical guidelines

Sign Language Interpreters (ASL and International)

  • Valid RID, BEI, or CASLI certification
  • State licensure (where applicable)
  • 3+ years of experience, including remote
  • Adherence to NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
