BURG Training and Certification Program for Translators (TCPT)

The BURG Training and Certification Program for Translators (TCPT) is a comprehensive, self-paced online program covering the full range of translation skills, from foundational workflow and project management to advanced text-processing techniques and certified translation practices. The full program spans approximately 40 hours of content across 4 progressive levels, with one year of access from enrollment.

The program is designed for both organizations that need to qualify in-house translation staff and individual translators seeking to formalize, advance, or document their credentials. It is eligible for ATA Continuing Education Points (CEPs) and meets compliance standards relevant to regulated industries, including healthcare, life sciences, legal, and manufacturing.

Who the Programs Are For

  • In-house translation teams at regulated organizations: Healthcare systems, pharmaceutical companies, legal departments, and manufacturers that rely on staff translators benefit from a documented, auditable training standard that demonstrates qualification under applicable regulations, including Title VI, Section 1557, ISO standards, GDPR, and HIPAA.
  • Individual translators building or advancing credentials: Freelance and staff translators at any skill level can enroll in the full certification track or select the level most relevant to their current practice.
  • ATA-certified translators maintaining credentials: The TCPT is ATA CEP-eligible. Completing the full program may earn up to 5 CEPs toward renewal of an ATA Certified Translator credential.
  • Bilingual professionals entering the translation field: The Introductory level provides a structured entry point for bilingual individuals who want to build a foundation in professional translation practice.

Program Structure

The TCPT follows 4 progressive levels. Participants may complete all levels to earn full certification or enroll in a single level that corresponds to their current expertise. Each level builds on the previous one, deepening linguistic knowledge, compliance awareness, and technical proficiency.
